If you've never had the pleasure of witnessing the insanity that is the Fancy Food Show, picture the Javits Center in Manhattan filled hundreds upon hundreds of food vendors, all giving out what seems like an endless array of samples. It's a chance for industry types to see the latest food-product trends and try food from all over the world. I think the potential “new” Democratic base is becoming clear at last. Or at least the base for the GE. Whether Obama would run from this base like he has from the one he used to win the Democratic nomination (presumptive), remains to be seen. Shootings on Monday and Tuesday left a pregnant woman dead and wounded at least six people, one just 9 years old. The opening of the holiday week offered no respite amid a sad trend that has seen the city's murder rate through June rise nearly 13 percent from a year ago.
